When I started driving rescue transport 7 years ago, I had no idea something like Martha’s Mutt Movers would be the end result. I drove for a year, then decided to branch out as a coordinator. By the end of 2012, the website was up and running, the Inc was formed, and Martha’s Mutt Movers was a non-profit. And none of that would have been possible without the Mutt Movers.
Rescue transport is all about the drivers. Without you, there is no transport. Day after day, all over the country, volunteers give selflessly to the animals in need – networking, pulling, sponsoring, fostering, adopting, overnighting, monitoring, and of course, driving. Through some of the most horrific weather, sometimes carrying grumpy butts, occasionally sitting in unforgiving traffic jams, you get the job done.
For that, I am truly thankful for each and every one of you. All of the volunteers of the rescue world are crucial to saving the lives of thousands of animals each year. Our personal contribution for 2016 was 363 dogs and 1 cat. Down from prior years, which I am hoping is a good thing, but I fear it was because we weren’t able to rescue as many this year. Some day, none of us will be needed.
Until then, I am proud to have every one of you on my team! Have a wonderful and safe 2017.
Forever my heroes,
